SSL needed for LTI access?

Hi,

Our IT group has deployed the virtual image of WebWork. It's running but not using SSL. Eventually, it needs to be setup so that students will access it through Canvas.

My question is that: Does WW needs to be run with https in order to use LTI 1.3 to communicate with Canvas?

Note that the server is not world accessible but can be access within our school VPN.

 Thanks

Yes, the LTI 1.3 spec requires https.  In addition many modern browsers won't connect to websites that don't have https enabled, so even if you're not using LTI you would still run into problems with students having trouble connecting to your server.  There are instructions for enabling https on the wiki.
